5.4 million
adults in Great Britain vape
Vaping is now more common among adults than smoking.
Xhale™ combines a smart sleeve that automatically tracks your vape use with an app that turns your data into clear insights. Understand your patterns, set your own reduction goals, follow your progress and access behaviour-change learning along the way.

Why Evex exists
Smoking often happens in distinct breaks. Vaping can happen almost anywhere, in small moments throughout the day. That can make it easy to lose track of how often you reach for your vape — and to use it more than you intended.
Understanding your vaping habits is a first step towards changing them.

Still evolving
Evidence and support designed specifically around vaping cessation are continuing to develop.
What we’re building
Xhale™ automates vape-use tracking through a smart sleeve that fits around your existing vape, turning everyday use into clear, personal insights. See your patterns, set reduction goals and access evidence-based behaviour-change support built around the way you vape.
Your vaping pattern, recorded automatically.
Xhale™ automatically records your vape use, helping you get a clearer picture of your vaping habits - when you vape, how often, and how that changes over time.

Health effects
Vaping is not risk-free. Research has linked vaping with a range of health effects, but the strength of the evidence varies. Some findings are supported consistently across multiple studies, while others are still emerging.
The chart below shows how strong and consistent the published evidence is for each finding. It reflects the strength of the research, not the severity of the effect or your personal risk.
Evidence strength
Bar length reflects how consistent the published evidence is for each finding.
Strong
Repeated, consistent findings across multiple studies
Moderate
Supportive evidence, but with limitations or areas still developing
Emerging
Early or limited evidence where conclusions remain uncertain

Our Story
Evex was founded by Abigail Simpson, from first-hand experience.
She started vaping socially at university, as an alternative to cigarettes. But vaping was accessible. With increased stress and anxiety, it began to feel continuous in a way smoking never had.
When she wanted to quit, she expected a clear path. Instead, she found little vaping-specific support or tools designed around the way people actually vape. Much of the available support still drew on approaches originally developed for smoking.
With vaping becoming increasingly common, that gap felt difficult to ignore.
If millions of people vape, and many of them want to quit, shouldn’t they have access to evidence-based tools designed specifically for vaping?
That question became the starting point for Evex.
Abigail combined her background in product design and digital health with research into vaping behaviour to explore a different approach - one built around automatic tracking, better data, behavioural science and a clearer understanding of how vaping fits into everyday life.

In 2025, Evex won Best Elevator Pitch at SETsquared Bristol’s Tech-Xpo. Today, we are developing and evaluating Xhale™ with expertise across engineering, behavioural science, product development and user research, ahead of a planned 2027 launch.
